How do I get a Podcast?

Clients, customers and employees can download and listen to a Podcast in a number of different ways. If a Podcast is to be played on an mp3 player it must firstly be downloaded to a computer from a website or a podcast directory. The Podcast can be played on that computer within your web browser or opened using standard applications such as Windows Media Player, QuickTime or RealPlayer. Some of these programs will recognise if an mp3 player is connected to the computer and can b used to automatically download the Podcast to that player.

So how is a Podcast different to an mp3?
Software such as iTunes and iPodder, which are used by most people that have an mp3 player, allow you to “subscribe" to the Podcast, which means that the entire process in automatic. The program checks to see if a new Podcast is available and automatically downloads it to the mp3 player through the computer. It is this subscription mechanism that makes Podcasts different to individual audio recordings.

How Podcasts are published and where can I find them?
Completed Podcasts are uploaded to a website or intranet site where the audio files can be dowloaded. In addition, they are syndicated to all the major Podcast directories worldwide. This means that your Podcasts will be listed on Yahoo, Google plus a plethora of specialist directories, the most important being iTunes and Podcast Alley.
