What is a Podcast?
As a business you produce sales literature, market updates, annual reports, newsletters, press releases and a variety of internal information. All of this information can be delivered quickly and effectively via Podcast with all the advantages that the medium brings. Think of a Podcast as a book. The title of the book could be "Investment". Each individual Podcast in that book is a chapter. So the first chapter might be titled "The Chinese Market", the second chapter "Telecommunication" etc. etc. Users subscribe to the Podcast title in this case "Investment" and then receive each new chapter as it is released automatically.

History of Podcasting
In 1999 – 2000 Adam Curry, a former VJ at MTV and Dave Winer formed a website called IPODDER.ORG which was one of the first Podcast sites for users to download audio clips of entertainment and information. The first use of the name Podcast stemmed from the term “ Personal Option Digital” with the word cast added to convey the information was broadcasted over the internet. About a month later the term changed from “Personal Option Digital” to “Personal On-Demand broadCAST”.

The idea behind the Podcast is to allow the user to view a file without having to stream or wait for the file to download, instead the file is ready to be viewed when the user is ready.
